Europe's largest carmaker, Volkswagen, is investing up to $7 billion to build a battery gigafactory in St. Thomas, Ontario - the biggest single investment ever in Canada’s electric-vehicle supply chain.

Canada’s federal government will be committing $14.8 billion in tax credits and grants, while the Province of Ontario will be providing $500 million in direct investment to the German carmaker, as well as, investments to upgrade local municipal infrastructure.

The Project is expected to generate over $200 billion for this country’s economy over the coming decades while making Canada a leader in electrical vehicle production.
